My friend Emily just returned home to Vermont and shared with me stories and photos from her visit to your home in Nairobi. My heart stopped for a moment when I saw your canvas painting of the Wild Gift woman, bridging the human and natural landscapes with her outstretched arms. It is such a beautiful interpretation of the logo. Did you make it yourself? And would you mind if I posted this and some of Emily's other photos on the Wild Gift website and newsletter?

You are a truly inspirational person, George. I am so glad that Bob and Emily have been able to meet you and I hope that I will, too, someday.

Best wishes,
Pete

Killer weed hits Kenyan herders

When the plant was introduced to Kenya 20 years ago, it was supposed to stop the deserts in their track. But 20 years later, it has become a nightmare for residents of Kenya's dry lands, who say the weed has overgrown the local landscape and continues to spread at an alarming rate.

Originally from Central and/or South American, the mesquite (or honey mesquite) is now pan tropically introduced and establishing, often as a weed. It is classified as a principal weed in Mexico, a common weed in the… Continue
