Hi :) I'm signed up to do a 3-month internship at Rancho Mastatal starting in January. Spent 5 weeks there a few summers ago... I love that place :) Are you still connected with Timo and Robin?

Yea Aimee!

Great to hear from you! I trust the Costa Rica residence has been both fine and revealing. Hope to hear about it on the September Middle Fork float? Have a wonderful day.

I recently completed a Masters program of Natural Resources and Peace Studies at the UN-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, followed by a 3-month internship at Rancho Mastatal, a sustainable living and environmental learning center in rural Costa Rica. Upon my return to the United States, I worked on the 2008 Presidential election as a lead campaign director for the Obama campaign in field offices in Ohio and Colorado. After winning an election (yay!) I did a quick stint campaigning to fight global warming as a frontline representative with Greenpeace in Honolulu, Hawaii.
I am currently teaching English in Seoul, Korea with the plan to save enough money to pay off my student loan and to then start a sustainable living project in Haiti.

Wild Gift Project

Project Title
The Abraham Project

Mission, Goals, and Results
The Abraham Project – Promoting A Sustainable Community School System, is a project of Aimee Gaines, a campaign field organizer from Piketon, Ohio. The Abraham Project provides lighting and a sustainable income for the operation of the Abraham village school in rural Haiti. Through collaboration with the community group of the village of Abraham, Aimee implemented a pig-raising project and will install solar panels at the village school when on leave from her current work. Aimee established a project committee, defined clear goals for the project, taught a class on money and project management and developed an accountability contract signed by all village parents (32 families/132 children) involved in the project. With village labor, Aimee built a pig shelter and installed five certified breeding pigs; built a feed depot and secured feed. Aimee accomplished her work amidst chaos in Haiti's principal cities. Aimee's most important long-term goal is the development of a model project that can be duplicated in other Haitian communities. Aimee is currently the director of a grassroots environmental campaign in Honolulu, Hawaii, and remains in contact with the Abraham Village chair.
